A Visit from Grandma and Grandma Frost

A couple of weeks ago, Grandma and Grandpa Frost came to Texas for a visit. It was so nice to have them here for the week and we had a blast! Abbi is particularly fond of Grandpa Frost (although she still hasn't quite figured things out and called him "Grandma" the whole time they were here). Here are some of the highlights:

SeaWorld

We had never taken the kids to SeaWorld before, but we knew they would love it. So while Grandma and "Grandma" were here we headed down to San Antonio to visit Shamu and friends.

This wasn't planned, but Carter and Grandpa were matcheroos at SeaWorld. Carter thought this was about the coolest thing going. He was Grandpas little buddy all day.

Abbi loved the shows, she even danced and did the actions along with the performers.

Ammon ended the day at SeaWorld with a splash. Literally. He really wanted to sit in the splash zone at the Shamu show, so I moved down closer with him. He kept saying, "we're not close enough Mom, I want to get wet and we're not close enough." So, I let him move a little bit closer. Well, as you can see, we probably were close enough the first time.

The Riverwalk

We went to the Riverwalk at night and it was beautiful, and bustling with people. It was hard to get a good picture of it, but it was definitely worth seeing.

The Natural Bridge Caverns

These were a great find. Just outside San Antonio. Once again, the pictures don't do them justice. Imagine Timpanogos times ten and without the hike up the mountain. We saw giant caves and great formations.

Good Eats

Since Colby judges every vacation by how good the food was, we made sure to hit some good restaurants.

Genghis grill. I'm telling you, this is the way to do Mongolian BBQ.

Shelf Building

This was the highlight of the trip for me. Colby and Ron built shelves in our garage. Not just any shelves but floor to ceiling, heavy duty, no longer do I have to move ten totes to get to the ONE on the bottom kind of shelves. I LOVE them.

Colby also now has a "workbench" for his hammer, and his drill. If anyone has superfluous tools they would like to donate to the cause, I'm sure Colb would love to work on "stuff" out in the garage.

The Dr.Pepper Museum

One day when the boys were in school, we drove up to Waco to the Dr.Pepper museum. We learned all kinds of useful information here.

Did you know that Dr.Pepper is not a cola and it's not a rootbeer either?

If anyone knows the tune to the Dr.Pepper jingle circa about 1950's, we'd love to know how it really goes.

Too much excitement

We have had lots of excitement at our house lately. Grandma and Grandpa Frost visited, we took a trip to SeaWorld, carved pumpkins, and ended the boys soccer season. ALL of which I have lots of pictures of and was really excited to blog about. Until this happened....

No, we didn't decide to dress up as doctor and patient for Halloween. Monday I spent the day in the Emergency Room with abdominal pain. (I know I look drugged in this picture- that's probably because I was).

I ended up having my appendix removed and spending a night in the hospital. I have spent the rest of this week hobbling around the house feeling pretty useless. I am so grateful to the family, friends and ward members who have been such a wonderful support system. We have had meals brought in, help taking the boys to school, help watching Abbi, flowers and cards and emails sent and phone calls received. It has strengthened my testimony that our Father in Heaven is mindful of us and blesses our lives through those around us.

I still fully intend on posting all of my "exciting pictures," but it might take a little while to get the stamina for that!

We are in trouble...

Abbi really likes boys. And it's a good thing, because it seems like all of her best buddies are boys. Abbi is always talking about Logan, Tyke and Crew, Isaac and Spencer. It is not uncommon to see her hugging these boys, trying to hold their hands, or snuggling up next to them. As you can see, she especially likes Crew.

However, I have never seen her do this...

Apparently this is pretty common behavior when she goes to Crew's house.

When I showed this picture to Colby he said, "he's way too old for her." (he's three)

When I asked Abbi about this picture she said, "I like Crew."

All I have to say is "we're in trouble!"

F is for....

Fall

It is finally cooling down a little around here. The first morning that it felt COOL I think I got a little overly excited and busted out all the kid's Fall clothes. I have since discovered that this was a little premature as it is still in the mid 80's. This Fall it looks like we will still be wearing our shorts and T's.

Friends

One of the bonuses of it cooling off a little is that we are using our backyard more.

The kids love to go outside and jump, play soccer and play with friends. OH, and eat carmeled apples- what could be more FALL?

Fun

Last weekend we held our fifth annual Haunted House decorating party. We had chili and cheesy brocolli soup for dinner then went to work building our houses.

This year it took five boxes of graham crackers, four doctors, three glue guns and two steak knives to build the haunted houses. All I can say is these dads have some serious skills.

Family

Last week we were also lucky enough to have Grandma and Grandpa Stewart come for a visit. Although it was a short visit (they were on their way home from a business trip in Houston), we packed in a lot of fun.

Fun with Family in San Antonio

Last weekend we took a quick trip down to San Antonio to visit my brother Scott and Aleese, who were there for a month doing a rotation for medical school. The kids were so excited to see their little cousins. It was so fun to spend the weekend with family.

After taking about fifteen pictures, we finally got one that (kind of) turned out.

While we were in San Antonio we had to stop by the River Walk,

and the Alamo.

I discovered that I need to brush up on my history. The only thing I could remember about the Alamo is that we are supposed to remember it.

We ended the weeked with some chocolate fondue. It was just as good as these two make it look.

By Popular Request...

I have had many friends and family members request for me to post pictures of our new house. I have been hesitant to do so for a couple of reasons:

1. Sadly, we are still not totally unpacked.

2. We still have A LOT of empty walls and bare spaces that need a little TLC.

3. There always seem to be toys on the floor, dishes in the sink or other incriminating evidence that we live here. It seems that there is never a great time to take pictures of the house.

After three months of living here, I have finally compiled some pictures of our (mostly clean and mostly unpacked) house. It was no small task! Here are some of our favorite features.

The Backyard.

Mostly just a big square of grass with very little landscaping and some new sod that is struggling to make it through the hot Summer but I LOVE IT! I love that it is fully fenced, I love that our only backyard neighbors are the cows that come over to feed at night. I am even getting used to the fire ants and scorpions that we have found back there.

The Living Room

The Laundry Room

Need I say more?? I love that it's a laundry room instead of a laundry closet like I've had the last ten years. I also love my super handy husband for hanging up extra shelves for storage.

The Boys Room

They aren't really into pirates- but I am. And the bedspreads were on sale...

The Office

a.k.a. The "Man Cave"

Usually if Colby is home, this is where I can find him.

I'm not really sure what he is doing in there all the time, but I've been told that it's important.

Kitchen/Dining Room

Love all the cupboard space. And the fridge with a water dispenser in the door. And the vegetable sprayer. This is usually where you can find me. Drinking cold water, and spraying vegetables and dishes, and happy as a little clam about it.

The Playroom

Don't be fooled, it's never this clean. Usually you have a hard time seeing the floor underneath all the toys, but that's the beauty of a playroom. I love that the toys are on the floor in the playroom and I'm not tripping over them in the kitchen. I would like to say that this is usually where the kids are, but lately if the boys are at school, Abbi is down in the kitchen spraying vegetables with me.

For those who were dying to know, we finally replaced our old dresser.

(the one that was literally falling apart, so much that Colby didn't even have to open his drawers to get his clothes out). I am a firm believer that waiting for things makes you appreciate them more!

So there you have it, our home for the next three years. If anyone was wondering- we are always up for visitors. I'll let you drink all the cold fridge water that you can drink, I promise that alone will be worth the trip.

Holy 'Mole

Lately, Abbi has been eating everything with a spoon.

Including grapes, popcorn and guacamole.

This girl LOVES guacamole.

And who can blame her? My homemade guac is pretty delicious.
