Spring Break Staycation

Last week the boys were out of school for Spring break. We didn't have any major plans for vacations, or any family coming into town so I thought it would be fun to plan a "staycation." I decided to do a different activity for each letter of the word SPRING. The staycation was a success and we all had a blast. I didn't do the best job at taking pictures of all our activities, but here's how we spent our Spring break staycation;

S- Science Experiments

Thanks to Pinterest and the small miracle of the World Wide Web, I came up with some fun Science experiments to do with the kids. We invited some friends over and spent the morning measuring, mixing and playing. Abbi was certain that at least ONE of our "periments" was going to "plode," but no luck!

Our Supplies all ready to go!

The elephant toothpaste was a big hit!

I love the excited expressions on the kid's faces.

We made our own Lava lamps out of oil, water, food coloring and Alka Selzer.... this is actually the first time I've actually purchased Alka Selzer. Plop, plop, fizz, fizz.

Abbi and Brynlee were wowed at how the water and oil separated. It's the small things!

Wala!

Making our own gack was also a big hit. These girls were concentrating pretty hard to get their mixture just right.

Doesn't is seem like the most fun things are also the most messy?

We also inflated balloons by combining baking soda and vinegar. Fun times.

P- Picnic at the Park

We had a beautiful 80 degree day and spent it playing at the park with friends. The boys found the (normally very shallow) creek to be quite full due to recent rainstorms. They started out wading in the water and before the day was through they were soaked from head to toe and covered in mud. They had a blast!

I love that they all have their shirts off!

Check out those muscles.

Abbi preferred to stay clean and dry with the other girls.

R-Reading

Although I didn't take any pictures, we spent one afternoon having a "read-a-thon." I am very grateful that both my boys love to read. It was a great way to spend a rainy afternoon.

I- Inflatables

I also didn't get any pictures of our "I" day, but we went to a local bounce house and played for almost four hours on all the inflatables. I had some tired, but happy kids when we got home.

N- Nothing Fun

This was my favorite day, although I don't think the kids would agree with me. We spent this day Spring cleaning. I put the kids to work cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming, mopping, organizing, washing baseboards, etc. They all worked very hard and it was so nice to have a clean, clean house at the end of the day (which lasted about 1.5 hours before it looked like we'd been hit by a tornado.... at least I know it was clean at one point).

G-GREEN!

On Saturday, we celebrated St.Patrick's Day. We started our with a scavenger hunt for a "pot of gold."

Then we had a breakfast of Green Eggs and Greenberry muffins, oh and green milk (Colby loves it when I dye and entire gallon of milk green).

To cap off the day, and the staycation, we had a birthday party/St.Patrick's day party for Ammon and Carter.

The party guests all brought green food to share.

We had green birthday cupcakes,

and lots of fun with friends (yes, that is sweat dripping from their hair!)

The boys somehow ended up drinking Colby's Coke Zero, which could have attributed to them acting like a bunch of monkeys...

Unfortunately, I forgot to take a group picture until after some of the party guests had left. Here are the kiddos I did capture on film. I'm telling you, this is a great, fun, group of kids!

There you have it, our Spring break in a nutshell. I'm telling you, if you are still reading this I'm impressed!

The "Potlight"

A couple of weeks ago, Abbi got to be the spotlight in primary. This was the highlight of her entire month. All week she talked about what she was going to take, what she was going to say, what she was going to wear, etc. We even had to paint her fingernails and toenails to match her dress so she would look "bootiful." I was very proud of my extroverted 3 year old when she insisted on getting up in primary all by herself and told the other kids all about herself. This girl loves to be the center of attention. Here is a video of Abbi "practicing" to be the spotlight.

A nine year old...

Yesterday we celebrated Ammon's ninth birthday. I can hardly believe it's been NINE years since this sweet little boy came into our lives. Lately, Ammon has been acting so grown up, I am kind of struggling with how quickly the years are passing by. There's a chance I might have cried in the grocery store when I bought the #9 candle for his cake, and again when he requested Burger King for his birthday dinner but didn't want to wear the crown and gave the toy from his kid's meal to his little sister. Other evidence that he is growing up way too fast; he requested apineapple upside down cake for his birthday cake... aren't kids supposed to want funfetti cupcakes?? or chocolate cake shaped like a giant lightsaber?

Christmas in March

I have come to terms with the fact that I may actually never get caught up on my blog, and I'm okay with that. I also don't feel like I need to blog about every little thing that happens in our lives. But because I would like to eventually turn this blog into a fantastic digital scrapbook, I feel like I should at least try to get caught up on the highlights. Someday I would like to be able to prove to my children that amid the chaos of life, and death, and pregnancy, we actually celebrated Christmas in 2011. We felt very blessed to be able to spend almost three weeks in Utah with our families. We hadn't been back to Utah for the holidays for a couple of years and it was great. There is something very special about spending the holiday season with the ones you love. Sadly, I don't have very many great pictures of our trip, but here are a few I did get.

Gingerbread festival at the Gateway.

Visiting Santa. (The boys thought something was pretty funny).

Ammon helping Grandpa fix his fence.

Making gingerbread houses with Grandma Frost.

Zoolights with Grandma Stewart.

Ammon decorating sugar cookies at Grandma Stewart's house.

Our Polar Express party with Grandma and the Stewart cousins.

Abbi's first time rollerskating.

Christmas Eve bowling at the Family Fun Center.

Abbi waiting for Christmas Eve dinner at Grandma Frost's.

Daddy and Abbi at the Stewart family Christmas Eve brunch.

Grandma's Christmas tree after Santa came.

Abbi surrounded by her Christmas presents.

The kiddos in their Sunday best.

Aunt Carolann and Grandma Cisney on Christmas morning.

Abbi and cousin Hazel wrestling. (These two little girls had so much fun together!)

The boys (and bugs) getting ready to go skiing.

After playing at Big Air with the Frost cousins.

A trip to the planetarium with the Frost family.

Three out of four of these guys get motion sick, can you guess which ones have to take Dramamine?

Like I said, we had a great trip filled with lots of fun and family. Thanks to everyone who took time to entertain us while we were there!
